The Long Night

Saturday, March 18, 2017

2:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Photojournalist Tim Matsui's award-winning documentary The Long Night depicts how runaway or neglected kids are coerced and manipulated into joining the sex trafficking industry.

The Long Night interweaves the stories of two young women coerced into the sex trade in King County, their increasingly bewildered and devastated parents, and the police officers trying to cope with a scourge that potentially touches all of us, no matter where we live. The film doesn't advocate a solution, but instead submerges the viewer in the experience of the people involved.

The film won first place in the National Press Photographers Association's 2015 Best of Photojournalism Media contest, won a World Press Photo's First Prize for Long Feature, and was named Documentary Project of the Year by Pictures of the Year International.

Learn more about trafficking in our region during an after-film panel discussion with Norene Roberts of the Washington State Children’s Administration’s Commercially Sexually Exploited Children’s Liaison and Laura LeMoon, Cocoon House Human Trafficking Advocate.
